Christmas Day Feast still on
By Sandy Morris
The 12th annual Christmas Feast will be held Wednesday, Dec. 25 beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church fellowship hall and ending at 1:00 p.m.
According to one of the organizers, Tamara Trail, the dinner still is free to the public, and anyone is welcome to receive food; however, this year there will be no dine-in option.
“Traditionally, this is a really good time for people to gather together and fellowship, but with COVID, we just aren’t able to offer a dine-in meal,” said Trail. “This year, we will only offer delivery and to-go options for the meal.”
Another organizer, James Breeden, is working on the menu for the feast which includes a choice of meats, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls, and dessert.
“We are asking for our church members to drop off a dessert for this meal if they can,” requested Breeden.
A project of the missions and evangelism team of the church, the event came about originally as a result of the group’s involvement in delivery of Vittles by Vehicles.
“We discovered that Vittles wasn’t delivering on Christmas Day, so we originally decided to cook and deliver for those served through Vittles,” said member Amy Kelly. “Then we started thinking about all of those who may be alone or may be unable to prepare a meal, and we decided to invite everyone.”
Vittles by Vehicles clients will receive delivery if desired, and anyone else who is unable to come to the church may also have delivery by calling Sandy Ingalls at the church at 325-762-2038.
