Albany’s Cause for Paws helps keep the stray animal population under control by contributing towards the cost to spay and neuter local dogs and cats.

However, the non-profit is struggling to keep up with the requests for assistance, and they are asking for help themselves.

Cause for Paws member Lacey Anderson said there is not an official campaign  this year to refund the organization, but members have asked for donations to be made if possible.

The program began a little over 10 years ago and has spent over $100,000 on costs to spay and neuter dogs and cats.

Anderson reported that spaying and neutering helps reduce the number of strays and unwanted animals in the community.

“Spaying and neutering prevents animals from being born accidentally and is the most effective and humane way to save animals,” Anderson added.

There are three local volunteer cat catchers in Albany to help control the stray cat population.

“The individuals who volunteer to help catch cats to spay and neuter are trying their best to help make a difference in the community,” Anderson said.

To make a donation to Cause for Paws, individuals can make a donation at First National Bank Albany/Breckenridge or mail a check to PO Box 2860, Albany TX 76430, indicating Cause for Paws on the check.
