OJAC offers subscription boxes
By Lynsi Musselman
The Old Jail Art Center is now offering a monthly arts and crafts workshop series through a subscription box format.
OJAC education director Erin Whitmore said that each month, subscribers will receive a supply kit and coordinating video that is password protected. Subscribers can watch and create at their convenience.
“We created a series for fall, and we will also have a series for the spring,” Whitmore explained. “Each season, the subscription includes four kits plus a holiday bonus box.”
Whitmore added that the OJAC started the virtual program as a continuation of its monthly studio workshops, since public programs cannot be held on-site at this time.
“The size of the response surprised us,” Whitmore said. “We may continue this virtual format even when we return to in-person programming. This has enabled our far-flung members to connect with us and attend our programs, and that was not possible before.”
Whitmore said one program is customized for teens and adults, and there is another for children.
The kids’ format is offered with the goal in mind to create “edu-tainment” kits that connect with some culture and history.
“We have received notes and e-mail from members who appreciate us trying a new medium,” Whitmore added. “They like the aspect of not shopping for supplies and getting to do the project on their own timeline. Who would not love getting a box of goodies in the mail each month?”
