Albany High School’s one act play (OAP) placed among the top three in district earlier this month, qualifying the local thespians to advance to bi-district competition, but that event has been postponed because of a reality that seems at least as strange as the one faced by the hero of The 39 Steps, only this one seems to be too much thriller and drama, without nearly enough comedy.

The University Interscholastic League suspended all UIL sanctioned contests, rehearsals, practices, and workouts through March 29 due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

“Bi-district has been postponed, and all practices are cancelled,” said co-director Jenny Scott. “Everything is uncertain right now.”

According to the UIL news release, the OAP district and bi-district certification deadline, originally scheduled March 26, has been extended to April 7, while the area certification deadline has been changed from April 4 to April 14.

The regional OAP scheduling window remains from April 15-18.

“I’m looking forward to the day when we can get together and practice again,” said Scott. “I’m hopeful that will happen.”
