Lady Lions post wins in first 3 games

The Lady Lion basketball team is off to a 3-0 start to the season after a pair of wins over the last week.
The varsity also hosted a pair of games this week, suffering the first loss of the season in a tough 27-32 game with Ballinger on Monday.
Albany also hosted Hamlin’s Lady Pipers on Tuesday starting at 2:00 p.m. Details of the game were not available at press time.
The JV girls competed in the Woodson Tournament last week but were unable to put a team on the court against Ballinger or Hamlin due to injuries.
Both the varsity and JV are scheduled to travel to Munday on Dec. 3 for games starting at 5:00 p.m.

Hawks, Snyder
The Lady Lions won their home opener on Nov. 19 against the visiting Abilene Lady Hawks, 39-21.
“The girls did a great job of playing solid defense, which is what we try to hang our hats on,” girls coach Tate Thompson said. “We didn’t shoot the ball as well as we did in our first game, so we struggled to put them away.”
Jaleigh Morales was named the offensive standout by the coach, while Torie Fuentes received defensive honors.
Scoring were Torie Fuentes 10, Brylee Moore 1, Cydney Nelson 5, Alli Hill 2, Traci Isbell 2, Tana Thompson 2, Carley Green 3, Jaleigh Morales 14.

Albany hosted Snyder’s varsity on Saturday, beating the Lady Tigers 46-43.
“Snyder is a solid 4A team, so that was a big win for the girls,” Thompson said. “This was our first true test against a good team, and I’m extremely pleased with how we handled ourselves. We have a long way to go to get where we need to be, but we are on the right track.”
Hill was the offensive player of the game, while Sarah Cotter drew the defensive call by Thompson.
Scoring for Albany were Fuentes 7, Moore 6, Nelson 2, Hill 18, Morales 8, Cotter 5.

JV Tournament Results
The JV girls played in the Woodson tournament Friday and Saturday, losing all four bouts.
“The girls improved a lot over the course of the tournament,” coach M.J. Reneau said. “They did a good job for their first games competing against all varsity teams. I was proud of their effort.”
Reneau added that she expects the team to continue to improve if they work hard throughout the season.
Albany fell to Woodson 32-28 and also recorded a 58-34 loss to Newcastle. They returned on Saturday, loosing to Knox City 32-18 and Rule 45-16.
Members of the team are Briley Tabor, Gracie Price, Presley Green, Chelsy Parsons, Lizzie Chavez, and Jaylyn Roberts.
Scoring totals for individual players were not available.
