Jr. high girls to play in tourney

The junior high volleyball teams played a set of games on Sept. 24, and the two A teams also played in the Hawley Tournament on Saturday with mixed results.

The 8A team was the only squad to play on Tuesday, hosting Woodson.

Three of the four local teams are scheduled to play in the Graham tournament on Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m.

Albany’s 7A team traveled to Moran on Sept. 24, bringing home a 25-18, 25-13 win.

Coach Ginger Norton reported that Caroline Holson led in serves with 17, followed by Abi Hale with 11 and Jalea Bowman with four.

The 7B and both eighth grade teams hosted Colorado City teams last Tuesday, with all three teams reporting losses. 

The 8A team fell 25-14, 21-25, 13-15, while the 8B girls lost 20-25. 8-25. The 7B team also dropped its match 0-25, 5-25.

The 8A girls won two out of three matches on Saturday in the tournament in Hawley.

Albany defeated Early 17-25, 25-17, 15-4 in the first round.

The team lost both games to Sweetwater in the second round, 25-10, 25-15, then rallied to beat Miles 25-19, 25-19 for third place.

The 7A team won one of three matches in the tournament, losing to Benjamin 4-25, 7-25 in the first round.

Albany won the second round 25-15, 25-16 against Hawley.

The 7A fell to Early in the final game, 18-25, 26-24, 10-15.

“The girls played hard and advanced into the consolation bracket,” Norton said.
