Fort Griffin will be holding a Stars and Skies of Texas: Star Party, this Saturday, June 29 at 9:00 p.m.
“Join us on June 29 at 9:00 p.m. as local astronomers share their knowledge of the night skies, telescopes, and other astronomy equipment with you,” said program specialist Eric Abercrombie. “You will have the opportunity to see planets, nebulas, distant galaxies, our own galaxy, and much more!”
The program will be held in the baseball field area of the campground and will run from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Earlier the same evening, Campfire Tales will be offered in the tent area of the campground at 7:30 p.m.
Regular admission will be charged for the event. Site staff will collect admission near the entrance to the campground for those that arrive to the program after hours.
Fort Griffin is also offering once-a-month guided fort tours for those that wish to get an in-depth experience of the fort and its history, with a tour planned for 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29.
Electric golf carts will be made available to check out for those that require them.
The next guided tour after this weekend is scheduled for July 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Fort Griffin is open to the public daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day.
Admission prices are $4 for adults, 3$ for seniors, those from the age of 6-18, college students, and adult tour groups, and free for children 5 years old and younger. Special fees apply to family and school groups.
