Sports banquet planned April 30

The 2019 All-Sports Banquet, which honors local students for their participation in high school athletic events, has been set for Tuesday, April 30 at the AHS gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.

The serving line will begin at 7:00 p.m., according to Athletic Booster Club secretary Tisha Wilkins.

Tickets for the event, with a theme of “It’s Game Time!”, are $15 and are only available at the Albany High School office.

Parents and students not in high school or not involved in athletics need to purchase tickets to the event.

High school athletes and coaches are invited to attend free of charge.

There may be a few tickets available at the door, but attendees are asked to obtain their tickets by Friday, April 26 if possible so organizers have an accurate head count for the meal.

There is a limit of 250, according to Wilkins.

The menu will be pork tenderloin or chicken breast, green beans, bread, and dessert.

Team Parents are in charge of their team’s tables.

“Team Parents will do the Sport Table decorations at the back, and then each team will be responsible for three or four table centerpieces,” Wilkins said.

Special centerpieces, personalized with the sports they participate in, have been made for the coaches and seniors.

Decorating the gym for the sports banquet will begin immediately after the close of the academic banquet on Monday, April 29.

The Athletic Booster Club is supplying the tablecloths, food, and other decorations.

High school athletes will be recognized during the banquet, and coaches will announce winners of various awards, including several special memorial awards.

The Albany Athletic Booster Club is open to all who support the Lions and Lady Lions.

Anyone interested in serving in the Athletic Booster Club next year should contact president Mindy Ary, vice president Stephen Kayga, secretary Tisha Wilkins, or treasurer Shawnee Tischler for more information.
