Officials to look at van

Albany News

Shackelford County elected officials planned a special meeting in order to view and possibly purchase a vehicle to transport clients from the Walker-Sayle Unit in Breckenridge.

County judge Bob Skelton reported that he had located a fairly late-model seven-passenger van for $4,700.

“This will limit us to a six-man workforce, but I personally think that will be all right,” said Skelton.

The three commissioners present for the meeting agreed that the vehicle should work, and said that they would meet in Abilene Monday to look at it so that the purchase could be made at that time if it is suitable.

Skelton will post a special meeting since there will be a quorum present. Details were still not worked out completely when the meeting adjourned Monday morning.

Hamby Voting Box

The judge expressed concern about the poor condition of the building used for elections in the Hamby area.

“I would like to come up with a strategy for the county to own the building so we can make improvements and resolve this issue,” said Skelton.

He plans to meet with county attorney Colton Johnson to see how the county might gain ownership of the former school.

License Training

Skelton also asked the other elected officials if there was an interest in a “license to carry training on the county level” with the Callahan County judge instructing the class at no charge.

“If you or your employees are interested, send me an email so I can give him an approximate number,” said Skelton. “We would schedule this on a Saturday after Easter.”
