AHS athletes earn post-season honors

Three senior Albany -Lions have been named to the football All-Big Country Super Team, also winning Class 2A honors along with several other members of the 2018 squad.

Senior Ryan Hill was voted both the Super Team and Class 2A Defensive MVP, as well as first and second team picks on both offense and defense. Hill was a two-way winner on the Super Team with first team defensive lineman and second team tight end honors. He also was named to the Class 2A first team as tight end and lineman.

Joining Hill on the Super Team, which includes all school classifications through 6A, was senior Cameron Dacus. He was honored at the defensive back position on first team for both the Super Team and the Class 2A squad. He also was selected for a second team slot as a receiver on the 2A team.

Senior Payne Hebel was a Super Team honoree as well, earning a first team position at offensive lineman despite missing four regular season games due to an injury. Hebel was a first team 2A recipient on the offensive line and was named to the second team as defensive linebacker.

Cutter Edgar, also a senior, was named to the second team for Class 2A as a running back. He also missed several regular season games due to an injury.

Two Albany juniors made the Class 2A list. 

Tyler Beard was picked for the 2A second team at offensive line, and quarterback Ben West was given honorable mention.

Longtime Albany coach Denney Faith was picked as the 2A Coach of the Year, guiding the Lions to a 9-5 season including an undefeated district championship (5-0) that ended at the state semifinal round despite an 0-5 non-district start.
