Weather cancels 2nd day of tourney

The JV Lion basketball team hosted a 16-team tournament last week, but games on Saturday were called due to the threat of icy weather.

The teams competed on Thursday, but didn’t come back for the second day of games on Saturday.

The JV will travel to Jacksboro on Saturday for a one-day tourney, then host the Abilene Hawks on Tuesday, Dec. 18 starting at 5:00 p.m. in the ancillary gym.

The varsity hasn’t taken the court yet due to the football playoffs. They are scheduled to take on the varsity Hawks at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday if team members are not still playing football.

The JV Red team split games in the local tournament last Thursday, falling in the first round to the Early freshmen, 32-17.

“We didn’t do a very good job of rebounding in the first half, which gave Early a ton of second chance points,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “We did a better job in the second half, but we never could get anything going on offense.”

Scoring points for the Lions were Brodey Jones 10, Cooper Fairchild 3, Malachi Gueldner 2, and Rylan Roberson 2.

The JV defeated Baird’s JV in the second round, 31-10.

“After a slow first quarter, our offense really started to click,” Peacock said. “We hit some shots and got into a good rhythm. Defensively, we did a good job of playing the passing lanes and rebounded well.”

Leading the scoring was Fairchild with 19 points. Also scoring were Jones 4, Taren Farmer 2, Luke Ivy 2, Ryan Mark 2, and Roberson 2.
