The traditional playoff drum beating, preceded by a community pep rally at the Bank Park, will kick off the Athletic Booster Club’s special activities this week as the Albany Lions prepare for the regional final match-up with Wheeler.

Albany will travel to Vernon for this week’s game, with the kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening, Nov. 30.

The -Lions will face the Wheeler Mustangs, who defeated Haskell 26-12 last week at the area level. The Lions beat the Santo Wildcats 38-28 on Nov. 23 to advance to the third round of the playoffs.

Albany has been assigned the home side at Lion Stadium, with ticket prices set at $6 for adults and $4 for students.

Team Dinner

The weekly team dinner for the varsity players will be on Thursday, Nov. 29, before the pep rally.

Park Pep Rally

Students and fans will gather at the Bank Park Thursday night, Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m. for a community pep rally, featuring a few cheers and pep talks.

The beating of the traditional all-night playoff drum will start immediately after the pep rally, with the cheerleaders signed up to beat the spirit drum from 8:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and other volunteers signed up throughout Thursday night, Friday morning, and Friday afternoon until the send-off.

Friday Send-off

There will be a send-off at the Bank Park at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, and everyone in the community is encouraged to attend and bring signs and noisemakers as the football bus rolls down Main Street.

Construction Zones

There are several road construction areas, with various lane closures, between Albany and Vernon.

The lanes are closed in both directions on US 283 between Albany and Throckmorton, with traffic diverted through Woodson.

The TxDOT DriveTexas.com website shows that the construction area includes US 283 from CR 209 to the merger with US 183.

Fans who decide to route through Breckenridge should be aware that there is road construction on US 180 on the Hubbard Creek Lake bridge. The area has one-way traffic control with delays during work hours.

Between Seymour and Vernon, construction on US 183 also has north and south bound lanes reduced to one lane, with one-way traffic control and delays.
