Adopt-a-Buddy application deadline extended

Parents who missed the Aug. 1 deadline to sign up their child for the annual Adopt-a-Buddy school supply program should call ResourceCare case worker Makenzie Marshall at 325-762-2447, ext. 119, to see if applications are still being accepted.

Enrolled parents should pick up their child’s backpack and school supplies next Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Youth Center.

“Although we’ve had some applications come in, we haven’t had as many as I expected,” said Marshall. “People can check with me to see if we still have room to add their child to our list.”

Marshall is also hoping to hear from those who can donate to the program.

“We have not had any donations come in yet,” Marshall said on Tuesday. “I’m expecting that the Ministerial Alliance will donate toward the backpacks, as they have in the past. Hopefully others will start bringing in supplies soon.”

The free program is designed to provide school supplies to families who need a little help getting their children outfitted for the upcoming school year.

ResourceCare will be accepting donations for Adopt-a-Buddy from now through Wednesday, Aug. 8, with residents asked to drop off school supplies, backpacks, or monetary donations at the center.

“Donations are appreciated,” said Marshall. “We can use anything on the school supply lists including pencils, markers, crayons, spiral notebooks, and paper. We can also use donations for backpacks.”

Older students will receive basic paper, spiral notebooks, pens, pencils, and highlighters.

Contributions can be addressed to ResourceCare, ATTN Adopt A Buddy, PO Box 2435, Albany TX 76430.
