Several local youth placed well at the San Antonio livestock show this month, including Albany Junior High student Gracie Price, who exhibited the reserve grand champion Maine-Anjou heifer at the junior breeding heifer show, and freshman Chelsy Parsons, who won the medium weight Hampshire division of the junior market barrow show.

Price won class 1, Maine-Anjou heifers, and then led Gracie Girl 15 back into the ring to be named Champion Maine-Anjou heifer calf. The weanling, born last May, was then selected as the breed’s reserve grand champion heifer.

Parsons showed a 249-pound pig to win the top spot in class 15, Hampshire junior market barrows. The judge then named Parsons’ project animal the medium weight Hampshire division winner.

Also placing at San Antonio with junior market barrows were Tatum Grady and Carli Edgar.

Grady took fourth with a 252-pound Duroc in class 31.

Carli Edgar was fifth in class 50 with a 248-pound dark crossbred.

Also showing pigs at San Antonio were Madison Wilkins, Cutter Edgar, Ryleigh Waters, Tyler Beard, Tristan Edgar, Callan Edgar, Cooper Edgar, Trey Snyder, and Hannah Snyder.

Four local youth took steers to San Antonio.

Price was sixth with a Hereford steer.

Hattie Braly, Kenzie Neve, and JT Holland also showed in the youth market steer division.

Three local high school students competed in the youth horse show.

She was ninth in the pole bending finals.

Mady Connally also competed in barrel racing.

Running speed events in the 13-15 year old division were Addie Beth Denton and Landree Connally.

Denton placed ninth in breakaway roping with a time of 3.42. She also ran in barrels, goat tying, and poles.

Landree Connally was 16th in poles, with a time of 22.886. She also completed a barrel run.
