Moran Independent School District started its 137th first day of school on Monday, Aug. 24.

MISD superintendent Danny Freeman said the school year started with 118 students this year, up from August 2019.

“This has been a great restart to school, and teachers and students are all excited,” said Freeman.

Classes at MISD begin at 8:00 a.m. and release at 4:00 p.m. daily.

COVID-19 Safety

MISD has implemented several COVID-19 safety precautions and administrators encourage students and families to remember to self-monitor.

Freeman said one important thing to help monitor the virus and other illnesses is to take each individual’s temperature before coming into the school each day.

“We received a new tear duct temperature reader that allows an individual’s temperature to be scanned from 30 centimeters away,” Freeman explained.

The machine was purchased with a safety security fund grant set aside for public schools to use for safety improvements.

Freeman said MISD has already had its first experience with COVID-19. One student who is considered a suspected case is awaiting test results for the virus.

“The way the situation was handled is an excellent response of how -COVID-19 mitigation should be processed,” Freeman explained.
