To ensure an accurate and healthy count for Shackelford County residents, being able to navigate the United States Census Bureau website is essential.

According to the Census Bureau, the coronavirus has created a lower turnout than expected and affected the Census Bureau’s field offices. The traditional in-person methods are not currently options.

The Census Bureau says households should get a piece of paper in the mail with a 12 -digit census ID. However, if one never came in the mail or there was a recent move, a new ID can be requested online.

Go to www.my2020census.gov and scroll to the button that says to “Click here for a Census ID.” There will be a few additional questions to answer, then the website will prompt the user to finish the census.

The 2020 census is said to be the first-ever American census with online submissions.

The Census Bureau reminds responders that information is kept confidential. Personal information is only used for statistics.

It is also noted that the census is required by law and eventually a local enumerator will show up at your house.

If going online is not an option, responders are encouraged to call 1-844-330-2020.

Shackelford Countys count has increased slightly to a 28.4 percent response over the last week. In the 2010 census, over 50 percent of local residents responded.
