Albany’s Sue Breeden brought home a blue ribbon from the West Texas Fair and Rodeo for the third year in a row, winning Class 6 of the Pinterest Division with her artwork “Apache Peace.”

The work displays a peace pipe, pipe bag, dream catcher, and protective cover for the pipe bowl arranged in a frame.

Breeden said she spent about 150 hours on the project, half of it on hand-beading the pipe bag.

The pipe bowl was made by drilling out a stone and decorating it with gar scales and small stones. The pipe stem was wrapped in sinew and covered with rabbit fur.

“Randy Rifenburg was a lot of help,” Breeden said.

Breeden’s past projects past projects include a silhouette of three friends and a beaded and sequined glass piece of three parrots.

She’s already finished her project for next year’s fair, she said, adding that she really enjoys beadwork.
