Preparations are in full swing for the 36th annual First Impressions Invitational Pig Sale, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 10 and Sunday, Sept. 11 at the Shackelford County Show Barn.

Shackelford County Youth & Livestock Association board member Mike Parsons said up to 250 buyers are expected to bid on the 125 animals that will be auctioned.

The event, which raises funds to benefit Shackelford County youth who participate in the county stock show, is the longest-running livestock sale in Texas. The sale provides animals for agriculture projects to 4-H and FFA members.

“We try to have a good show and a good sale for the producers and the consignors,” Parsons said. “We intend to provide a pleasant place for the buyers to come. They’re all very supportive of the kids, which really makes it unique because it’s the only sale that’s strictly for the benefit of those participating in the Shackelford County Livestock Show.”

On Saturday, entries will be placed at 3:00 p.m. Barbecue and refreshments will be available at 7:00 p.m.

On Sunday, animals will be judged for placement at 10:00 a.m. with the sale to begin at 1:00 p.m.

Zach Wilcox and Brad Bevel will again serve as judges with auctioneer John Cooper conducting the sale.

Unlike past years, there is not a scheduled workday to prepare for the event. Instead, students from Albany ag classes will conduct work during the week, according to Albany FFA adviser Chris Beard.

“We will probably do some work Friday or early Saturday before the sale,” Parsons said. “We’ll send out an email blast to get that part organized.”
