Waller steps down as Fandangle board chair

Fandangle board president Steve Waller announced last Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the association’s regular meeting that he was stepping down from both the office and the board.

“We went through the director transition, we have selected a new marketing director, and we have several young, new board members that have joined the experienced directors,” said Waller. “I feel good about the direction the Fandangle is going, so it was a good time to step down.”

Betsy Parsons retired after the 2016 show after serving as the Fandangle artistic director for 24 years, and Lorna Ayers took over the reins in 2017.

“Steve and I have a shared passion for Fandangle.” said Ayers. “He will be missed not just as president but as a board member.”

Meredith Robison, the marketing director for the last few years, moved out of the area after the 2018 summer show, and Rebecca Bridges has been selected to fill the position.

“I am excited about that,” said Waller. “Rebecca has already started working on some marketing ideas even though she isn’t in the office yet.”

Elected to the board this year were returning directors John Ayers and Shelly Bartee, along with new members Lesley Jones, Dustin Parsons, and Lauren Willen.

Also on the board are Lanham Martin, Cody Leech, Branch Bartee, Cori Bezner, and Bucky Nail.

Waller has been in the Fandangle for 50 out of the last 53 years, a director for almost 10 years, and has served as president of the board for two and a half years.

“I have too many irons in the fire,” Waller said. “If you get spread too thin, you can’t do a good job. But I plan to still be in the Fandangle.”
