The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 7 Constitutional Amendment election is next Tuesday, Oct. 10, delayed a day because of Columbus Day.

Shackelford County and District Clerk Cheri Hawkins, who is also the local elections coordinator, explained that Texas residents can register in person at the Courthouse in Albany by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Eligible residents can also register by mail by going to votetexas.gov, printing a voter registration form, filling it out, and mailing it to Belinda Perez, Deputy Voter Registrar, PO Box 2630, Albany TX 76430 with a postmark of Oct. 10 or before.

Voters are also reminded that they must complete an annual application (every year) to receive a ballot by mail. The voting period runs January to December

“You have to fill one out every year,” said Hawkins. “If you don’t remember, call me, and I will be happy to look it up. I only have seven for this voting cycle.”

Voters will have to complete another application for an annual ballot after Jan. 1, 2024 for the upcoming primaries of 2024. That form also includes the 2024 General Election.

The last day to receive an application for a ballot by mail for this Constitutional Election is Oct. 27, 2023. The completed form must be in the office by Oct. 27 and not just postmarked by that date, Hawkins said.

For more information, call the clerk’s office at 325-762-9415 or the voter registration office at 325-762-9420.

There are 14 propositions on the 2023 ballot.
