The annual field day for Nancy Smith Elementary School students will take place at the high school track on Monday, May 20.

“We will need volunteers to help with the field events and water events,” said physical education instructor Ginger Norton.

Parents and other volunteers typically help by working as starters and by measuring and recording times and distances. Those willing to help are encouraged to call the elementary office at 325-762-3384.

Pre-K and Head Start

This year’s schedules were still being finalized as of press time, but are expected to be as follows.

Prekindergarten and Head Start will start out at the throwing events at 8:30 a.m., and then rotate to the sack races at 8:45, hurdles at 9:00, and 20-yard run at 9:15 a.m. They will be the first classes to get wet, heading to the water events around 9:30 or 10:00 a.m.

After drying off, they will be served lunch at 11:00 a.m., before returning to the elementary campus for a 1:00 p.m. early dismissal.

K, 1st, and 2nd Grades

Kindergarten, first, and second grades will do field events including sack races, hurdles, a 20-yard run, and softball and football throws between 8:30 and 9:15 a.m. Their tug-of-war matches are scheduled for 9:30 a.m., followed by water kickball and water relay from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

A hot dog sack lunch will be served to them at 11:15 a.m.; then they will load on buses to return to NSES at 12:30 p.m. for a 1:30 p.m. early dismissal from school.

Third - Sixth Grades

The third through sixth grade contests will get underway at 8:30 a.m. with field events including high jump, long jump, girls softball throw, and boys football throw.

Running events will begin at 10:30 a.m., with a lunch break from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.

Tug-of-war, water kickball, water slide, and water relay events will start at 11:45 a.m., and finish in time for students to load the buses at 1:10 p.m. for the return trip across town to the elementary school.

Classes will dismiss for the day at 1:30 p.m.

Parents can check their child out after the track meet if they wish to. Otherwise, students will be bused to the NSES campus afterward for the early release.

The students’ homeroom teachers will have sign-out sheets for parents who choose to pick up their children at the track meet.
