Volunteers help in June 12 cleanup

Local residents volunteered time last Saturday, June 12 to help with the Chamber of Commerce-  promoted community cleanup day.

“Most of my Chamber board members showed up or worked the day before or the day after,” said Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones. “They give up several Saturdays with no recognition. They do it because they love Albany.”

Volunteers helped to clean the areas leading to the Fandangle grounds and as many public areas as possible, including all of the walking paths, by mowing, weed eating, and picking up trash.

Jones said the roll-off container was mistakenly delivered to a residential  address instead of being in place at the Depot, so the receptacle at the water plant was filled up instead,  and the tire truck was nearly full.

“The roll-off container is here now and available through Friday morning to continue the cleaning efforts,” Jones said. “Please continue to tidy up your own spaces.”

First National Bank gave hamburger deals at Prairie Star to all the volunteers, First Financial Bank supplied ice cold water, and King & Robertson Insurance donated Gatorade.

Jones said she was pleased with the results.

“It was a fabulous success,” said Jones. “A big thanks to Jane Hooker who keeps things looking good year round. Without her generosity, it would be hard to finish up the small details on one Saturday.”
