The Albany Ministerial Alliance’s Christmas Basket food drive will receive its first delivery of food items Monday before preparing to deliver the baskets the next weekend.

With 100-plus families and individuals on the list, donations are still needed to cover costs, and volunteers are being sought to help with delivery.

“We’re just in a waiting phase right now,” Ministerial Alliance secretary Tisha Wilkins said on Tuesday. “We will sort and bag next week, and the baskets will be delivered Dec. 19.”

Next Monday, Albany High School ag students will collect nonperishable items from Brookshire’s and deliver them to The Feed Store. On Dec. 19, frozen items will be delivered before the baskets are distributed.

“Brookshire’s is nice enough to keep all the cold stuff for us in their coolers,” Wilkins said.

The annual program strives to provide a box filled with ingredients needed for a traditional holiday meal to families in need of assistance.

The drive received 101 applications this year with 41 in Albany, 35 in Moran, and 25 through Vittles by Vehicles.

Donations can be mailed to the Ministerial Alliance at PO Box 3084, Albany TX 76430.

Wilkins said families may pick up food at The Feed Store on Dec. 19 if they wish rather than having it delivered to their homes.

Wilkins is still seeking volunteers to help deliver the baskets. To volunteer, contact her at 325-660-7443.
