VFD cancels egg hunt, needs supplies
By Melinda L. Lucas
The April 11 annual community Easter egg hunt sponsored by the Albany Volunteer Fire Department has been cancelled, with plans to possibly reschedule some event later in the spring.
According to fire chief Kyle Tischler, AVFD members decided last week that the event should be cancelled.
“We definitely want to do something for our kids since most will be unable to celebrate like they usually do, but we’ll decide on that later,” said Tischler.
He added, though, that there are more pressing issues to be considered.
AVFD Needs
“We are quite concerned about keeping our firefighters as safe as possible,” said the chief. “And there are specific procedures that must be utilized in some responses that may get complicated in regard to the coronavirus situation.”
Tischler asked for the donation of N95 masks, hand sanitizer, and medical gloves by anyone who has access to those supplies.
“Our supply is running very low, and the possibility of getting any more right now is not good,” he said.
Donors can call Tischler at 325-721-0917.
