Persons interested in adding the name of a veteran toa additionalmarker to be set on the courthouse square next to other monuments can do so for free if information is provided by May 15.

The project is headed by Mary Kay O’Connor, who explained that two new monument stones have been ordered and paid for by donations.

When the first addition to the existing monuments was filled quickly, a second new stone was ordered.

“The first new stone has been received by the stonemason, and they are waiting on the second piece,” shesaid.“Anyone Who Has name to be added can do so without charges at this point, an engraver will not have to come from Eastland to add more names.”

Normally, a $95 fee is charged to add a name if the engraver has to make a trip to Albany. Since any additional names can be added prior to installation, there is no additional fee.

Credentials for candidates, living or deceased, must be presented, including proof that the honoree was a resident of Shackelford County and proof of military service.

Anyone interested is urged to call O’Connor at 325-660-2498.
