Veterans invited to assembly

All veterans in Shackelford County are invited to join local students for a Veterans Day celebration on Thursday, Nov. 11 at the high school gym.
The event will start at 11:00 a.m. with several special patriotic musical presentations, according to organizer Ann Riley.
“I sent over 90 invitations to veterans or spouses of deceased veterans,” Riley said. “I think they have a really good program planned, and we hope that the community will join us to thank our veterans.”
Albany Cub Scouts will present the Colors, followed by the National Anthem played by the junior/senior high school bands.
Student council officers will conduct the ceremony, with principal Glen Hill introducing the veterans in attendance. There will be a special section for veterans to be seated on the gym floor.
A musical performance will be given by the third grade students that includes “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “Thank a Vet.”
A group of Albany fiddlers directed by Robbin Westmoreland will present a patriotic medley, followed by a salute to veterans performed by the Albany band.
Refreshments will be served in the foyer of the gym following the ceremony, hosted by the Family Consumer Science classes.
Student council president Sarah Cotter will give the welcome, followed by the Pledge to the American Flag by vice president Luke Ivy. Secretary Ty Everitt will lead the Pledge to the Texas flag, and treasurer Gracie Price will read a patriotic poem.
Jaci Chapman, reporter, and parliamentarian Cole Chapman will serve as ushers and greeters.
Invitations were mailed to local veterans on the school’s mailing list. However, all veterans and their families are invited to attend.
Anyone not receiving an invitation is asked to fill out a form that will be available in the foyer to provide updated information.
