By Kathy Thomson

All veterans in Shackelford County are invited to join local students for Veterans Day activities next Monday, Nov. 11, at Nancy Smith Elementary School and at the Moran Independent School District. Additionally, the veterans and their spouses are invited to a special luncheon put on by the Albany Study Club next Thursday, Nov. 14.

The three Veterans Day events will honor local veterans and thank them for their service to America.

AISD Program

The elementary campus will host the annual Albany ISD Veterans Day assembly on Monday, Nov. 11 at 9:00 a.m. in the NSES cafeteria.

“All local veterans and their families are invited,” said NSES administrative assistant Stephanie Gleitz.

Gleitz said that veterans do not need to RSVP.

Refreshments provided by the elementary school will be served to the guests after the assembly.

Local Boy Scouts will be on hand to present the colors under the direction of Jacey Shack.

Fifth grade students will serve as greeters.

Musical entertainment will include singing by the first, second, third, and fourth grade classes, and by a patriotic medley performed by local fiddlers led by Robbin Guinn.

Sixth grade students will narrate the event.

Invitations have been mailed to local veterans on the school’s mailing list, but all veterans and their families are invited, even if they are not currently on the list.

Any veterans who did not receive an invitation are encouraged to contact the school office at 325-762-3384 to get added to the mailing list.

Moran ISD Luncheon

Moran will host its fifth annual Veterans Day Hamburger Luncheon for the veterans of Shackelford County at noon on Monday, Nov. 11. It will be held at the MISD Event Center.

“Moran ISD welcomes all veterans and their families to our Veterans Day hamburger luncheon,” said superintendent Danny Freeman. “We appreciate your service and hope you can join us.”

Attendees are requested to RSVP by calling the school at 325-945-3101 with the total number of family members attending.

Study Club Luncheon

All attending veterans will be honored at the Albany Study Club’s seventh annual Veterans Luncheon next week on Thursday, Nov. 14, at noon at the Old Jail Art Center.

The club tries to invite every veteran in the area, and members are hoping that all the local veterans and their families will come, even if they did not receive an invitation.

“We want to honor our county veterans, their spouses, and their service to our country,” said member Janna Ledbetter.

This menu for the event this year will be stew, cornbread, and various desserts.

Patriotic songs in honor of the veterans will be sung by Kirstin Hilliard, who will be accompanied by Karen Noble.

Trinity Lutheran pastor Tom Chandler will give the short welcome and prayer.

If any veterans or their spouses did not receive an invite and/or need more information, they are asked to contact Ledbetter at 325-260-3957.
