The Albany Ministerial Alliance’s supported Community Vacation Bible School theme this year of Game On! has been a big hit if attendance numbers are any indication, with 160 children participating on Monday and 155 on Tuesday.

“We have a lot of kids!” Tisha Wilkins said. “We’ve had between 100 and 110 from Day Camp, plus 40 to 50 drop-ins that were not in the ResourceCare program.”

VBS will continue through Friday, July 20, and daily lessons build on the verse of the week, His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. (2 Peter 1:3)

“The kids really seemed to enjoy singing Game On during the opening ‘pep rally’ time in the ‘Stadium’ with Levi and Ashlee Herron,” said organizer Lavelle Vinson. “They played games including one called ‘Shepherds and the Sheep’ during activity time with Alison Gardenhire and Stephanie Gleitz.”

Ginger Bumguardner is the story time leader.

Thursday’s scheduled theme of the day is “Jesus Loves Me,” and when the participants rotate to the “Field House” they will learn how Jesus showed his love for his disciple John and for everyone, everywhere, by looking at the last supper, the crucifixion, the empty tomb, and Jesus on the seashore.

Friday’s message will remind the children that they can follow the example shown by Paul and Silas in prison and know that if they will focus on God, they can know that “Jesus Gives Me Joy” regardless of their circumstances.

“We are learning about a mission family in Poland that uses football to share the Gospel, and another mission family in Baltimore,” said pastor Tim Trimble. “We are asking kids to bring water bottles for missions, for an upcoming Fellowship of Christian Athletes event here in Albany.”

Labels based upon the various VBS days’ themes will be added to the bottled water, and the bottles will be handed out to participants at the FCA Kick Off Rally at Robert Nail Stadium on Aug. 2.

“Some of the VBS kids were able to help put labels on the bottled water on Tuesday,” said Wilkins. “The mission project is really cool.”

Children from pre-K to sixth grade can still come and join the others that are learning how to “gear up for life’s big game” at the VBS held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. through Friday, July 20, at Friendship Baptist Church.

Those with questions can call Tanya Petree at 325-762-3735 or Vinson at 325-721-2114.
