The 2022 UIL season for high school will start soon, with a contingent of Albany students entered in a practice meet hosted by Haskell this weekend despite a conflict with the local stock show.

However, because the host school has been closed all week due to COVID cases, the meet could be postponed until Jan. 29, according to UIL director Rick Davis.

Albany will also attend a second practice meet in Stamford on Feb. 26, followed by the district meet on March 24 in Hawley.

Students placing in the top three of each event at the district meet will advance to the Region II Meet at Grayson College in Dennison on April 22-23.

The UIL state meet is currently scheduled to be held in person on May 5-7 in Austin. The state meet was cancelled in 2020, and was held remotely in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On a related note, the Interscholastic League Press Conference is also scheduled to be held in Austin on May 6-7 after a two-year hiatus. The results of the ILPC journalism awards are revealed during the conference, including the Star Awards.
