There is still a little time remaining to help a teacher or staff member at Albany Jr./Sr. High strut their stuff next Tuesday with votes by donation in the Turkey Teacher contest.

Donations which turn into votes will be accepted until the end of the school day this Friday, Nov. 18.

Proceeds from the second annual FCCLA project will go to provide Christmas gifts for youth identified by Resource Care who are in need of some help during the holiday season.

More than 20 AISD teachers and staff members are participating.

Students and others purchase feathers to be placed on the turkey designated for each participant.

The winner of the contest will wear a turkey costume all day next Tuesday as a result of the win.

As of Tuesday, junior high teacher Chanel Hayner was leading with 254 tail feathers, followed in second place by band director William Vaughan with 93.

Donation jars are located in the classroom of each teacher and in the FCCLA room for staff members without a room.

Anyone in the community is welcome to participate in deciding who will be this year’s Turkey Teacher.

Donations can be sent with students or brought in person to Marshall at the high school.

FCCLA Officers

The local FCCLA chapter elected officers recently.

Mimi Ivy was elected as president. Others are vice president of fundraising Zane Waggoner, VP of competitive events Luke Marshall, VP of membership Caroline Chapman, and VP of projects Madi Parrott.

Other officers include Gabby Lopez – secretary, Lanxton Viertel – treasurer, and eighth grade representatives Adrian Wren and Hattie Jo Braly.
