Truck show set this Saturday

The third annual Shifters Car Club Truck Show will entice nostalgia buffs and truck enthusiasts to downtown Albany this Saturday, Sept. 22, to see antique vehicles, hot rod pickups, and classic work trucks lined up side by side for judging and viewing.

Everyone is welcome to come out, walk around the show for free, view the preserved and restored relics of a former time, and listen to the rumble of engines that relied on two- or four-barrel carburetors to mix the fuel and air mixture into the proper proportions.

People with classic, hot rod, original, custom, rat rods, 4x4’s, or any other type of trucks built in 1987 and earlier are invited to enter the competition.

Registration is $20, and takes place from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. the morning of the contest.

Dash plaques will be given to exhibitors.

“We’ll welcome anything that could be classified as a truck,” said organizer Robert Snyder. “Entries can be pickups, flat beds, hot rods, rat rods, 4x4s, panel trucks, Model Ts, classics, customs, or old bed trucks.”

A Best of Show and the People’s Choice will be selected. Top 20 awards will also be given.

Door prizes will be provided by Albany Eagle Auto Parts.

For details about the truck show, call Snyder at 325-762-4555, or call 325-762-0003.

Other Activities

Snyder noted that dove hunters could schedule morning and evening hunt times, and still spend the middle of the day at the truck show.

The Flying A Car Museum will be open Saturday, and the vehicles on display are scheduled to be changed out, so repeat visitors to the museum can see some new items, according to Snyder.

The Old Jail Art Center, located on Hwy. 6 on the south side of Albany, is hosting a free family festival from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22. Crafts, food, and games are free to everyone at the museum’s celebration of the Chinese mid-autumn moon.

The downtown Aztec Theater will light up for a 7:00 p.m. showing of 8 Seconds later on Saturday evening. Free water and popcorn are available to those who purchase a $6 ticket to the movie.
