Trail, Beal crowned at prom

Hannah Trail and Barrett Beal were crowned queen and king during the Albany High School Junior-Senior Prom held Saturday, May 15 at the Whitney Theatre.

The king and queen are selected by the members of the junior and senior classes. 

Nominees for prom queen included Sidney Bartee, Elia Hebel, and Trail. Prom king nominees were Brady Karl, Ryder Wilkins, and Beal. 

Trail, the daughter of Justin Trail and Tamara Trail, is valedictorian of the Class of 2021, and  plans to attend Texas Christian University in the fall to major in entrepreneurship and innovation.

She has been a class officer and student council member all four years of high school. She has also been a National Honor Society member and was elected NHS president for this school year. 

The prom queen has competed in volleyball during her high school career, helping the team to earn co-district champion and state semifinalist titles.

Trail has written for the Lions Roar school newspaper, been a cheerleader, served on the Feed Store Board, and performed in the Fort Griffin Fandangle and One-Act Play. 

She has participated in UIL academics and has won district champion and regional qualifier in multiple events. She recently won a gold medal at the state UIL contest in editorial writing. 

After her junior year, she shadowed orthopedic surgeons and learned about medical procedures at Abilene Sports Medicine & Orthopedics. 

Beal is the son of Christi Beal and Joe and Rosie Beal. He has attended school in Albany the past two years. 

Beal played football and basketball all four years in high school and participated in track for three years. 

Beal received several football honors including being named District MVP Offense, All-Big Country honorable mention quarterback, ninth most efficient passer – Evan Ren’s All-Big Country, and second team All-District safety.

In basketball, Beal was named All-District MVP-Offense, All-Big Country First Team basketball,  and All-Big Country Super Team honorable mention.

The prom king plans to attend Blinn College after graduation and major in crop and soil science.

Mr. & Miss AHS

AHS students also recently nominated senior candidates for Mr. and Miss AHS. 

The honors are selected by the entire high school student body, and are typically announced at Winter Formal which was cancelled this year due to COVID concerns. 

The freshman nominees for Mr. and Miss AHS are Barrett Beal and Sidney Bartee, while the sophomores nominated Zach Parrott and Elia Hebel.

The junior class selected Jackson Chapman and Alli Hill, and the seniors named Ryder Wilkins and Hannah Trail as their nominees.

A special assembly will be held at AHS on Monday, May 24 to announce the 2021 Mr. and Miss AHS.
