Toys for Tots lunch to raise funds for program

Applications from parents requesting that their children be included in the 2018 Toys for Tots program must be filled out and turned in to ResourceCare before the close of business on Friday, Nov. 30.

As of Tuesday, 45 children were signed up. The program provided gifts for 71 underprivileged children last year, and case worker Makenzie Marshall expects more applications to arrive before the deadline.

ResourceCare also oversees Adopt-a-Senior, designed to provide wrapped Christmas gifts for the 37 adult seniors that are enrolled in Vittles by Vehicle.

Toys for Tots

Local parents who need a little help to provide a merry Christmas for their children from infants to sixth graders need to turn in a completed Toys for Tots application ASAP.

The local Toys for Tots campaign is coordinated by Marine SSgt. Doug Beaty.

Money collection boxes are set up at several locations including Sanders Drug Store, Prairie Star, and Albany Minit Mart.

New toys and gift wrap paper can be dropped off at the collection boxes at the high school, ResourceCare, and Dollar General.

Parents who applied will need to pick up their children’s gifts at the Youth Center on Dec. 12 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Adopt-a-Senior

Adopt-a-Senior provides practical Christmas gifts, such as cleaning supplies, bed sheets, towels, etc., for those enrolled in the Vittles by Vehicle program.

“All of the seniors still need to be adopted,” said ResourceCare program assistant Ragan Riley on Monday, Nov. 26.

Riley hopes all 37 of the enrolled senior adults will be adopted before the Dec. 7 deadline.

Any individuals, businesses, or churches willing to sponsor senior citizens this holiday season should call Riley before Friday so she can make sure that all of the seniors will receive gifts along with their VBV meal on Friday, Dec. 21.

Riley can be contacted at 325-762-2447, ext. 101.

Gifts for the seniors need to be dropped off at ResourceCare by Wednesday, Dec. 19, so that the staff has time to wrap them.

Applications for Help

Applications for assistance for children from birth up to sixth grade that are in need of a Toys for Tots gift are available at the Resource Center.

The deadline to turn in the applications is this Friday, Nov. 30.

Families that wish to apply for gifts for their home-schooled teenager can pick up Believe Tree applications at the Resource Center, and those also must be returned by Friday, Nov. 30.
