Time to Clean!

Local volunteers are being asked to show up at the Chamber of Commerce office located in the Depot on Saturday morning for the annual city-wide clean-up.

“We will concentrate our efforts on Main Street, the creek beds, downtown, and Cook Field Road out to the Fandangle grounds,” Chamber manager Brandi Lehew said. “We are asking people to bring their yard tools and help us get the public areas ready for all the visitors who will be in town in a couple of weeks for the Fandangle.”

Volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Depot to be assigned areas that need attention. Yard tools such as hoes, rakes, gloves, mowers, and weedeaters will be needed.

“The Chamber will supply buckets and trash grabbers, as well as trash bags to the volunteers,” Lehew said. “Everyone who helps out will be given a ticket to use for a burger, fries, and a drink at the Happy Grill.”

The meal is being provided by Clear Fork Bank.

“We need everyone who helps to check back in at the Depot when they finish their area so we can give them a ticket for lunch,” she said.

Anyone who is interested in helping but can’t attend on Saturday morning is urged to call the Chamber office to be assigned a spot to clean either prior to Saturday or after.

It was noted that anyone needing volunteer hours can be given a note to verify their participation.

Citizens who need assistance from volunteers can contact the Chamber office at 325-762-2525 to request help.

Recent rains are adding to the need to tame the overgrowth of grass and weeds.

Citizens will also be able to take advantage of the roll-off dumpster that will be delivered on Friday (tomorrow) in the Depot parking lot for Albany city residents to use in the clean-up effort.
