Teachers still need to be adopted

Local residents still have a few days to select items from a Christmas wish list provided by  local teachers and school staff members.

The Academic Booster Club is once again inviting the community to “adopt” a member of the school staff by fulfilling one or more entries on the wish lists to help provide requested supplies or items for classrooms.

The link to the wish list for Albany teachers and staff is now available on the Facebook page for the AJHS Academic Booster Club.

“It is still not too late for teachers to send in their lists to me,” committee member Audrey Peterson said. “If they don’t see their name on the list, they can still contact me. I have had requests for teachers who haven’t sent me their list yet.”

Peterson said that matching donors with all staff member is running slower this year.

“While we have had a number of people who have matched with teachers,  participation by donors is also a little slower this year,” she said. “We know that everyone is busy with the state football game, so we are going to continue the program a little longer.”

The wish lists are hosted on SignUpGenious.com and provide a way for parents and members of the public to select specific entries.

Some staff members have asked for specific items, while others are suggesting gift cards to Amazon or some other online  merchant.

The project is sponsored by the “Rise and Shine” committee of the booster club.

Several staff members have provided links for specific items found on Amazon or another national retail site. Patrons will need to copy and paste those links into a browser to access the details.

Staff members were asked to list two or three items with a maximum value of $50 to be placed on the web site.

“This is a great opportunity to encourage and support teachers and staff members who educate our children,” committee member Audrey Peterson said.

Parents and community members are asked to deliver the items or gift card to the schools no later than Tuesday, Dec. 20.

This is the fourth year that the committee has sponsored the program.

Teachers and staff at both campuses have been asked to participate, as well as the administrative office personnel.
