The first of four Region 14 teacher workshops hosted by the Old Jail Art Center is scheduled for Friday, July 12, with the other three being held later in July.

The workshops give teachers access to new lesson plans and projects, and they can win drawings throughout the day for books and classroom art supplies.

The workshops will cover a variety of topics, including “The Art of Reading” on July 12, “Around the World Through Art & Games” on July 19, “Texas Railroads & Western Expansion” on July 26, and “¡Fiesta! Hispanic Arts & Culture” on July 31.

Breakfast and snacks will be provided at all four workshops.

Teachers who attend will also qualify for a discounted membership to the museum at the educator level.

The first program, “The Art of Reading,” will be held on Friday, July 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The program is most suited for teachers of grades K-3 who teach visual art, reading, language arts, and general classroom.

The second workshop, “Around the World Through Art & Games,” will be Friday, July 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This workshop is designed for instructors of grades 6-12 and who instruct visual arts, fine arts, and world history.

The third workshop, “Texas Railroads & Western Expansion,” will be held on Friday, July 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This workshop is ideal for instructors of grades 4-8 who teach social studies, Texas and US history, and science.

The final workshop is “¡Fiesta! Hispanic Arts & Culture” on Wednesday, July 31 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., designed grades 5-10 for teachers of Spanish language, language arts, social studies, and visual arts.
