Tax statements mailed

Usually mailed by the end of October, tax statements for Shackelford County property owners are just now showing up because of a data delay from Callahan County.

According to Shackelford County Appraisal District (SCAD) chief appraiser Clayton Snyder, the local staff waited for about six weeks for the portion of Moran ISD that is in Callahan County.

Once the correct information was received, the statement files were uploaded electronically to a mailing company for processing and distribution.

Snyder reminded local taxpayers that their payments are due before Feb. 1, 2021 just like they would be if they had been mailed two months ago.

As long as property owners receive their statements by Jan. 10, 2021, the first day of February 2021 remains as the delinquency date, according to Texas tax code.

County taxpayers who have not received their statements can contact the SCAD at 325-762-2207

CAD Lobby Closed

Because of COVID-19 quarantine requirements and staff shortages, the SCAD lobby closed to the public as of Nov. 23.

Snyder said that the lobby will remain closed until local virus conditions improve and will also depend on staffing availability.

“Starting next week, individual appointments can be made for assistance in person,” said Snyder. “Available services will be assessed weekly for public safety.”

Masks in the SCAD office are not mandatory at this time for the appointments but are recommended.
