Tables all sold for Hereford Ball

The last time Albany hosted the Hereford Ball was in February of 1921, but the Albany Chamber has plans to bring back the celebration 100 years later.

Albany Chamber of Commerce director Mary Beth Jones said the ball is a dress-up celebration of Shackelford County’s ranches and history.

Plans are in place for the Hereford Ball set for Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Whitney Theater.

“All advertising tables are sold for the Hereford Ball,” said Jones. “Invitations to Chamber members went out and tickets were quickly purchased.

A small section of limited seating was opened up to the public, but quickly sold out, according to Jones.

“We would have liked to add some additional seating, but felt we were at maximum capacity with COVID and keeping attendees socially distanced,” said Jones.

Jones is hoping to make this a biennial event and hopes they will be able to expand the size of the ball with no COVID issues in the future.

“Right now, we are looking at hosting this ball every other year on odd years,” said Jones.

Pictures Needed

Jones is reaching out to the community for any pictures or memorabilia dealing with Herefords or the Hereford Ball.

Photographs and other pieces of history will be copied and used to decorate for the ball.

“We are looking for any historical memorabilia or copies of pictures of Herefords to be used,” said Jones. “Everything that is submitted will be returned to the original owner.

Pictures can be taken to Jones at the Albany Chamber or scanned and emailed to her.
