Superintendent’s contract extended

At the end of Monday night’s meeting, following the routine closed-session evaluation of AISD superintendent Jonathan Scott, a unanimous motion extended Scott’s contract by one more year to January 2024.

The board also proposed a five percent salary increase a salary increase, effective Sept. 1, 2021.

The action, with a motion by Joe Tidwell and Second by Ginny Ivy, came at the end of a 1-1/2 hour closed session, with the meeting adjourning a few minutes later.

Scott is finishing up his second full year in the AISD superintendent’s office.

COVID Pay

The board voted to extend emergency paid sick leave to cover illness and quarantine related to COVID-19 until the end of the school year.

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act initiated by the federal government expired at the end of 2020, but will be continued by Albany ISD under this resolution until June 30, 2021.

Other Business

•The board election was ordered for Saturday, May 1. Terms for Places 3 and 4, currently held by Kalico Leech and Cory Brown, will expire this year.

•In addition to a special meal prepared for the board in observation of School Board Appreciation Month, Scott voiced his respect for the job that the local trustees continue to do for the district.

•A donation of $2,602 from the Community Foundation of Abilene was accepted to use for extracurricular expenses.

•During his report, Scott explained some of UIL’s rules concerning upcoming baseball and softball tournaments, intended to limit COVID exposure.

•He also said that a recent school day cancelled because of weather will not need to be recovered, because the district has enough minutes “banked.”
