Superintendent’s contract extended
By Melinda L. Lucas
At the end of Monday night’s meeting, following the routine closed-session evaluation of AISD superintendent Jonathan Scott, a unanimous motion among the four board members present extended Scott’s contract by one more year to January 2026.
A salary increase was included in the motion for an undisclosed percentage, contingent upon the 2023-2024 budget.
The action came at the end of a 3-1/2 hour closed session, with the meeting adjourning a few minutes later.
Scott said that other personnel matters were discussed in closed session, but there was no other action taken when meeting was reopened to the public.
Scott is in the middle of his fourth full year in the AISD superintendent’s office.
State Champ Decisions
Head football coach Denney Faith outlined decisions made about the design of the state championship ring, which can also be purchased as a pendant by cheerleaders and coaches wives.
The Balfour rings, which were ordered on Wednesday morning, were available to 22 varsity football players, along with six coaches and the trainer.
Although no action was taken at the meeting, it was hoped that funding could be obtained to help players purchase the $300 rings.
Faith also said that a 6x6-foot stone monument had been proposed to commemorate the state championship, but he wants to recognize the 1960 and 1961 state teams with two other matching monuments.
Estimated cost of the monuments is $15,000 each.
