After the absence of regular school events from Spring Break to the end of the regular school year, summer school has started up with some normalcy.

Third grade to sixth grade students at Nancy Smith Elementary School started summer school on Monday, June 1.

Students will attend in classroom instruction from 9:00 a.m. to noon Monday to Friday.

Summer school will end on Friday, June 19.

NSES principal John Gallagher said with Texas Education Agency rules and guidelines, the school is allowed a limited number of students, and they are required to disinfect each day after school.

“It was almost weird to have students at school, but we are very excited to see them,” Gallagher said.

Summer school is for students who did not pass or need additional instruction for the 2019-2020 school year.

Secondary Plans

Summer school for junior high and high school students will begin Monday, June 8.

Albany Junior/Senior High School will continue a virtual learning program through Friday, June 25.

AJSH principal Edward Morales said students enrolled in summer school will need to come to the school office and pick up a laptop to complete their course work.

Morales explained that summer school this year is for credit recovery only.

Junior High Awards

Many Albany junior high students missed out on receiving awards for the 2019-2020 school year at the cancelled annual Junior High Awards Assembly.

According to Morales, the school plans to award those students once school begins for the 2020-2021 school year.

Awards will be given to the top boy and girl for both seventh and eighth grades in several categories.

Included in those categories will be Health, Tech Award, Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Band, Athletics, Perfect Attendance, Best All Around, and One Act Play.
