The summer reading program sponsored by the Albany Study Club has one session remaining for the 2019 program.

Children from the ages of two to four and kindergarten to fourth grade are encouraged to attend the final program on Tuesday, June 25 at the Shackelford County Library. Those from the ages of two to four should have an adult accompany them.

The program begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 11:00 a.m.

The program’s theme this summer was “A Universe of Stories,” in cele-bration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landings.

Children who attend can expect to participate in space-themed readings, games, and more.

The summer program has been meeting at the library every Tuesday throughout the month of June.

The reading program helps to give children a reading opportunity during the summer months.

“Summer break can contribute to achievement gaps in students in between grades,” said library committee chairman Janna Ledbetter. “Summer reading helps to increase prior knowledge that students need to succeed in the school year. The more that children read during the summer, the easier it will be for them to comprehend difficult texts put in front of them.”

The Shackelford County Library is open to the public from 12:00 noon to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday; and 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

The library is located at 402 N. 2nd, and can be contacted at 762-2672.
