Sunday evening, May 12, the Prairie Theater is expected to fill with the sounds of dance music, children’s laughter, and instructions from the caller when rehearsals for the 2019 Fandangle summer shows begins at 7:00 p.m. with Square Dancers and Little Wrangler, followed by Yoledae at 7:45 p.m., and Huppi Hi at 8:30 p.m.

“Square Dance is for children from pre-K through sixth grade,” said artistic director Lorna Ayers. “The new dance for junior high students, Yoledae, is for seventh and eighth grade students; while Huppi Hi is for ninth to 12 graders.”

Ayers clarified that the grade levels are based upon the grade the student just completed, not the grade they are going into next year.

The elementary, middle school, and high school dancers will have their second and third practices on Sunday, May 19 and Sunday, June 2.

“I know that everyone is very busy this time of year,” said Ayers, “so I really appreciate the time everyone puts in to create the best show, year after year.”

Scenes that will be rehearsed at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 13 include Beehive, Wild & Wooly Man, Beehive Interior, Over the Age of Consent, and Reprise.

Practices begin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 for large groups including Fortin Up, Ft. Griffin Street, Courthouse, Train, and Church.

Indians will rehearse on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m.

Large groups scheduled to practice on Thursday, May 16 are Women’s Work, Chuckwagon, Wedding, and Death of Glenn Reynolds.

Rehearsal schedules can be picked up at the Fandangle office or by going online to Fandangle.org, clicking on “Cast,” and entering the password “2019.”

According to the director, the website offers a printable schedule for both May and June, and the rehearsal schedules for “horses and wagons” and for “sets and lights.”

Text alerts are used to inform cast members about last-minute changes.

“I encourage everyone involved in Fandangle to sign up to receive text message updates by text-ing @fandan to 81010,” said Ayers.

Fandangle tickets can be purchased online at fortgriffinfandangle.org seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

Box seats cost $20 per seat, and are only sold in complete boxes for $80, $120, or $160.

Fandangle memberships are still available, starting at $75 for regular memberships, or $25 for those over 65 years of age.

The four performances at the Prairie Theater this year will start at 8:30 p.m. on June 21-22, and 28-29. The parade is set for Saturday, June 22 at 5:00 p.m.

“Come experience the life of the cowboy, the Indian, and the settler,” said marketing director Rebecca Bridges. “Hear the songs and watch the dances played out by a cast who share a direct heritage with the characters they portray. Come relive the pride and the pageantry of the Fort Griffin Fandangle 2019!”
