Summer Day Camp begins Monday

ResourceCare’s annual Summer Day Camp begins next Monday, July 14, with 124 children ages 3 through sixth grade set to participate in the two-week program.

“Thanks to some late applicants, we were able to add back our pre-K and kindergarten groups,” said camp co-director Mindy Ary. “But registration is now closed – no exceptions – because we have to maintain the proper staff-to-child ratio for the kids already enrolled.”

The camp, sponsored by the Shackelford County Resource Center, runs weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for two consecutive weeks: July 14–18 and July 21–25. Activities include swimming, sports, arts and crafts, dancing, Bible School, and themed dress-up days.

Parents are reminded to send campers with a towel and swimsuit each day except Mondays, when the pool is closed. Life jackets and goggles are allowed but must be labeled with the child’s name.

“Please send kids in their regular clothes over their swimsuits,” said co-director Ragan Riley. “It really helps not having to get that many kids changed.”

Campers should not bring toys or electronics, including cell phones. All personal items should be clearly labeled, as the camp is not responsible for lost belongings.

A light breakfast snack, full lunch, and afternoon snack will be provided daily. Because meals are funded through a summer food grant, no outside food or drinks are permitted.

Although staffing needs were met after a newspaper and social media appeal last month, camp organizers are still requesting community support in the form of donations. This year’s most needed items are sunscreen and monetary contributions. Donations may be mailed to ResourceCare, ATTN: Day Camp, P.O. Box 2435, Albany, TX 76430, or dropped off at the Shackelford County Resource Center.
