Students, staff take holiday break

Albany students and staff started the Christmas break on Wednesday, gaining a few extra days this year due to some changes in the schedule.

The break started with an early-release on Wednesday, Dec. 22 and will continue until Monday, Jan. 9 for staff members. Students will return for the first day of class on Tuesday, Jan. 10 to start the second semester and the fourth six weeks.

Teachers are going back a day earlier for staff development and to plan for the new semester.

High school basketball teams were in action on Tuesday, Dec. 20 with district games against Haskell.

A mandatory shutdown of all school athletic facilities is set for Thursday, Dec. 22 through Monday, Dec. 26.

The school will provide an open gym on Dec. 27; however, the girls team will have a team workout at 11:00 a.m. on Dec. 27.

The varsity boys are scheduled to play in the Brownwood tournament on Dec. 28-30.

The girls varsity team will play in the May Tournament on Dec. 28-30.

The next scheduled school holiday is set for Monday, Jan. 16 for Martin Luther King Day. Students will also get a holiday on Friday, Jan. 20 for the local stock show. Staff members will have a workday.

Another student holiday and staff development is set for Monday, Feb. 20 for President’s Day.

Spring break is scheduled for the week of March 13-17.
