Students, staff take holiday break

Albany students and staff are currently in the midst of a two-week Christmas break, even though a limited number of activities are scheduled next week at the high school level.

The break started with an early-release on Friday, Dec. 17 and will continue until Monday, Jan. 3 for staff members. Students will return for the first day of class on Tuesday, Jan. 4 to start the second semester and the fourth six weeks.

Teachers are going back a day earlier for staff development and to plan for the new semester.

High school basketball teams were in action on Tuesday, Dec. 21 with district games against Hawley.

A mandatory shutdown of all school athletic facilities is set for Wednesday, Dec. 22 through Sunday, Dec. 26.

The school will provide an open gym on Dec. 27 and 28.

The boys basketball program will hold workouts on Dec. 29-31 at 1:00 p.m., as well as on Jan. 3.

The girls varsity team will play in the Eula Tournament Dec. 27-29.

The next scheduled school holiday is set for Monday, Jan. 17 for Martin Luther King Day. Students will also get a holiday on Friday, Jan. 21 for the local stock show. Staff members will have a workday.

Another student holiday and staff development day is set for Monday, Feb. 21 for President’s Day.

Spring break is scheduled for March 14-18.
