Students, staff to get Monday off

Albany ISD students and staff get a day off for the first holiday of the 2022-2023 school year on Monday, Sept. 5 in observance of Labor Day.

Classes will resume as scheduled on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the normal time of 7:55 a.m. for Nancy Smith Elementary and 8:00 a.m. at Albany Junior/Senior High School.

Classes started at both campuses on Aug. 17, with the first six-week grading period ending on Friday, Sept. 23.

The next holiday on the calendar for students, a comp day for staff, is Monday, Oct. 10 for Columbus Day, followed by the Thanksgiving holiday that will start with an early release on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

Classes will resume the following Monday, Nov. 28.

The school will dismiss on Wednesday, Dec. 21 for the Christmas holidays, with the second semester starting on Tuesday, Jan. 10. Teachers will return on Monday, Jan. 9 for a workday.

Students will continue to follow the regular daily release schedule except on early release days.

Head Start and three-year-old pre-K students are dismissed at 2:30 p.m., followed by the four-year-old Pre-K through grade 2 at 3:00 p.m. The rest of the campus is released at 3:30 p.m.

Students at the secondary campus are all released at 3:35 p.m.

All buses run at the end of the school day starting at 3:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and at 3:00 p.m. on Fridays.

On Fridays, all classes end at 3:00 p.m. except Head Start and three-year-old Pre-K, which dismiss at 2:30 p.m. as usual.
