Students prepare for academic competition

A number of high school students placed at the Stamford UIL Practice Meet originally scheduled for Feb. 26. It was switched to a virtual meet due to weather conditions.
Students were administered UIL tests in a variety of categories and submitted using email to Stamford, with final results announced late last week.
“It was difficult catching all the kids to test virtually because they are all so busy,” high school coordinator Rick Davis said. “There were a couple of kids who didn’t get to compete because of scheduling conflicts.”
Albany students will also travel to Hawley on Thursday, March 24 for the District 10-2A Academic Meet, with the top three places moving on to the Region II meet later in April at Sherman.
“We will only have three days to prepare for the district meet once we get back from spring break,” Davis said. “We may not be quite as prepared as usual, but we have some talented kids entered, and we are hoping for the best. We feel like they can get some top places.”
