Albany High School students have recently been sent forms through Google Classroom so they can request courses for the 2020-2021 school year, according to counselor Jenny Scott.

In the absence of a special meeting this year, students will be able to enroll in dual credit and approved advanced placement courses through Google Classroom.

Scott said that College Board pre-approved advanced placement courses are being offered alongside dual credit courses.

The courses, along with appropriate grade level, are listed on Google Classroom forms and registration packets that were sent electronically.

Students who take AP courses can possibly be eligible to bypass required introductory college courses.

Cisco College partners with Albany High School to deliver dual credit options to high school students, except for college algebra, which is offered through Western Texas College.

To be eligible to take dual credit courses, students must meet the Texas Success Initiative Assessment exemption or pass the TSI test. Also, students are responsible for the cost of books, tuition, and fees for dual credit classes.

To qualify for financial support, students will need to complete the Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the website fafsa.gov.

Dual credit allows students to earn college credit and high school credit concurrently.

The benefits of taking dual credit classes can include reducing the time and money required to earn an undergraduate college degree. Also, the rigorous coursework can prepare the student for later success on their education path.
