Students decide on Turkey Teacher

Junior high and high school students and even members of the community can vote with donations for their “favorite” teachers or staff member, with the winner becoming a turkey for a day.

The recently revived FCCLA Chapter is raising funds to purchase Christmas gifts for local needy children and the elderly with the first-ever project entitled “Turkey Teacher.”

Teachers and staff who agreed to participate each have a paper turkey minus the feathers hanging in the hallway outside the FCCLA room, but donations to the project can “buy” feathers to place on the sparse birds.

For every $1, the donor purchases a feather to place on the turkey of their favorite member of the staff. The bird that is best dressed with the most feathers by the Friday, Nov. 19 deadline will get to “strut their stuff” on Tuesday, Nov. 23 by wearing a full turkey suit.

Teachers who volunteered to participate also signed a contract agreeing to wear the turkey costume, according to new FCCLA teacher Jennifer Marshall.

The project started Nov. 1, with a junior high coach and high school science teacher racing neck-in-neck to gain the most feathers and win the title of 2021 Turkey Teacher.

Community members wanting to participate can send donations with FCCLA members or drop off donations at the high school.
